On Tuesday 27th January all the first years went on a trip to the Cavan County
museum in Ballyjamesduff. We were all very excited because most of us had never
been to a museum before. We arrived and were split into two groups. My group
went into the workshop first where we learned about primary and secondary
sources and artefacts. We learned about how the earliest settlers came to Ireland
and how historians and archaeologists found information about these settlers. It
was very interesting and we were allowed to ask as many questions as we wanted.
Then the groups swapped and we went into a room with a big dugout canoe
which showed us exactly how Ireland’s earliest settlers travelled across the sea
and along rivers.
Then we went to look at all the displays the museum had upstairs and all the
artefacts. There was so much local history in one place and information about
each of our hometowns. We all enjoyed the trip and we learned a lot as well!!
