WEEK OF LANGUAGES
AND CULTURES
This year the Royal School week of languages and culture was as interesting and
exciting as ever! Students from different cultural backgrounds came together in
the schoolroom for a cultural exhibition. Each student was given an opportunity
to set up a display showcasing traditional dress, language, food, music and
photographs from their country and the result was a vibrant and lively occasion.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn about and experience
other traditions and cultures.
A spokesperson from the Irish Deaf Society came into school and spent some
time teaching the transition year students how to use sign language which was
certainly an enjoyable and instructive way to spend a morning. The students
were also given the opportunity to try out different countries national sports
such as cricket and boules. Cavan Cricket Club kindly gave a lesson to a group of
students.
The week ended on a high with a table quiz organised by the transition years for
first year students. The theme of each round
was on different languages and cultures
connected to our school. Overall, the week
was a huge success, students thoroughly
enjoyed the enlightening opportunity
to immerse themselves in other cultures
and traditions and we are already looking
forward to next year’s events!
