HiSToRy TRip To newGRAnGe 2R And 2S
On the 26.03.2014, both classes 2R and 2S went on a history trip to the famous
passage tomb Newgrange built in the Neolithic Period (New Stone Age) in the
Boyne Valley, Co. Meath. We set of at nine o’clock. The bus journey took about an
hour and a half.
When we arrived at the Newgrange we went to the museum of The Boyne Valley
which was a few minutes drive from the Newgrange passage tomb. In the museum
we were given an activity sheet which we had to complete in the museum, where
all the answers could be found. We had a great time viewing the artefacts and
make-shift sculptures of the Stone Age.
After the museum we went into a room were we watched a short video about
Newgrange. When we were finished watching the video we went down to the
restaurant where we bought and ate our lunches. We then boarded our bus which
took us to Newgrange, where we met our guide.
We were split up into two different groups. We went into the passage tomb,
Newgrange. Even though the outside of the tomb has been rebuilt, the passage
was still standing hardly damaged. The Newgrange passage tomb was circular in
shape and the passage leading up to the burial chamber was a cross shape. The
passage into the burial chamber wsa narrow so we had to squeeze our way into
the burial chamber.
