The School Baseball Team
During the week of Languages & Culture one of the sports our Form five and Transition
Year students took part in was baseball. Our local county team The Comets came
down to our school to give a baseball lesson. They held a pitching and throwing
competition and the winners were awarded a prize of €25. Later on in the year in the
month of March one of our Form three student, Alex Filmer set up a baseball team in
our school. This has been a great success and has proven to be very popular with the
student body. The team was recently donated baseball gear which has brought the
team to high spirits.
Mr. Foudy and Alex coach the school baseball team on Thursdays from 4.00 to 5.30
upon the hockey pitch. This has had great turnouts in the school as a lot of the
students enjoy baseball. The baseball team, as always will accept new members to
play for the team. The future of the sport is really quite promising; with a dedicated
team, the House League coming soon and close ties being fostered with Baseball
Ireland, baseball is certainly moving from strength to strength.
