JUNK KOUTURE
It began the moment Ms Burns told us about the competition Junk Couture. Adora,
Catherine and I came together to create a group and we began brainstorming ideas for
our creation. After deciding to use newspaper, we sketched a layout of our design and
got to work.
Lunchtime upon lunchtime, class upon class and our dress was completed. We had ups
and downs but felt ecstatic once finished. Our dress was composed of newspapers
and CD disks. The majority of the dress is a folded zig-zag design. The top of
the dress is also a folded zig-zag design except its tucked into the waist band.
The centre of the dress is covered in CD disks. For an extravagant, puffy and
sophisticated look we made a collage of newspapers at the upper back of the
dress. The shoes are made of broken CD disks with newspapers. We produced a
large bow for the back of the dress, the front and the shoes. Lastly, the umbrella
is made of newspapers. The make-up is smoky with a hint of colour to tie the outfit
together.
We jumped for joy when we discovered we were selected to attend the
regional finals in the Millennium Forum in Derry.
Next we set out to look for votes. It was a long tedious process but we
were able to rake up over 150 votes. After the performance in Derry all
the contestants waited anxiously backstage. Unfortunately “Read All
About It” and “All Bottled Up” were not selected to attend the finals.
It was the end of the road for all of us and I look forward to see
what’s in store in the future for Junk Kouture .
