An Triail.

On the 19th of November 2014 Mr.Ames and Miss. Dennigan brought the higher level pupils from Form
5 and Form 6 to see the drama An Triail in Athlone Co. Westmeath. An Triail is a drama on our Leaving Cert
course so it was very worth while attending the performance. The actors were indeed very professional
and they displayed a very accurate picture of life in the 1950/ 60’s when Máire the main character in the
play found herself pregnant. The play highlights the views that the Church and society had regarding a
single mother in Ireland at that time.

The excellent theatrical group An Fibín came all the way from Conemara Co. Galway. The Royal School
attends this play every year and it is certainly a treat and an escape from the pressure of study. On behalf
of the 5th and 6th year pupils we would like to thank Mr. Ames and Ms. Dennigan for organising the trip
as we are aware that a great deal of time and effort goes into organising a trip of this nature. Go raibh
                       míle maith agaibh.

                                                                                           By Ian Hall.

                                     workshop on Scrúdú Cainte

On Friday the 3rd of January four students from the school took part in a workshop on ‘Scrudú Cainte:
Ailson Hewitt and Aisling Kells from sixth year and Sami Aziz and Sonia Cahill from 3rd year attended the
workshop in the library over a two hour period. The aim of this workshop was to help prepare students for
the oral Irish exam which will be held before Easter. We worked on our Sraith Pictiúrí and we were given
tips and advice on how to attain as many marks as possible. We also listened to a video online of each
poem on our course. We then did work on our
conversational Irish and Ailish took each student
for a mock oral exam. There were other students
from Breifne College, St. Patrick’s College and
Loreto College at this workshop. We had a break
and the library provided refreshments for us. Mr
Ames encouraged us to attend this workshop
and it was indeed very beneficial. We thoroughly
                       enjoyed it.
