Third Year Romeo and Juliet Trip

As part of our Junior Cycle English course
we have studied “Romeo and Juliet” by the
          eminent playwright Shakespeare. “Romeo and
Juliet” is inherently a story of true tragedy and
the extents people go for love. Throughout the
course of the play we learned how two feuding
families caused the tragic double suicide of
Romeo and Juliet.  Romeo and Juliet are poor
sacrifices to their family’s enmity. As the play
says itself, “For never was a story of more woe
than this of Juliet and her Romeo”.
Moreover, on Thursday the 15th of March all 25
of the higher level students went to see “Romeo and Juliet” being performed in the Dr Mill Theatre in Dundrum, with our two
teachers Mrs. Forde and Mrs. Trenier. The play was infused with junctures of fascination and enchantment as we got to see
the storyline unfold.  The play was superbly executed, fulfilling all expectations as the actors brought the characters to life.
The play allowed us to gain a further insight and understanding into both the violent and patriarchal society as well as the
thoughts of the main protagonists. This is essential for our understanding of the play and it will definitely aid the quality of
our work on “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare.
