Willow Weaving
Workshop.
On the 16th of January the art students from 1st year
and 2nd year and also some 5th year students took
a trip to Belturbet to explore the art of weaving. We
took the bus to Belturbet hall and met a man called
Eddie. There was loads of pieces Eddie had woven
himself on display. The first years had come up with
interview questions to ask Eddie, and he told us all
about the art of weaving willow.
Everybody had picked a piece they would like to
weave beforehand, a flower, a bird feeder or a wreath.
Everyone was split into three groups depending on
which piece they picked, I myself picked the wreath.
We all got into our groups and got weaving. There
was lots of difficult steps to work out but we all got
there in the end with some help from Eddie. Then we
had a lunch break from all our hard work!
We were sadly coming near the end of the day, none
of us wanted to leave. Everyone had the best day and
would love to have a go at weaving again. Eddie gave
us great advice and hopefully we will be back soon!
I would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to Eddie for
teaching us this amazing art of Willow Weaving!
