SCIENCE WEEK
On the 13th of November 2015 our school held a Science Fair. For this the second
years had to design and make experiments and display them for Cavan No.1 School
and the first years of Royal School Cavan. The students from Cavan No. 1 were also
given the opportunity to carry out experiments in the science lab, under the watchful
eyes of the Transition Year students and science teachers.
Projects ranged from the acidity levels of water to the fitness of first years. The
science teachers Mr.Corley and Mr.Galligan provided sufficient time to complete the
projects and our experiments.
All the groups researched their projects, carried out the experiments and finalized
their results into a display within the week . First place went the experiment “Does
the slope of a ramp affect the speed of a car”, second place went to “Fitness of first
years” and third place went to “The rates of evaporation in different liquids”. The
competition was judged by Mr. Kavanagh and Ms. Martin.
Prizes were provided by the first year mini company “Bake me Happy”. The students
who took part in the science fair both enjoyed and gained plentiful knowledge for
the future. After talking to the students of Cavan No.1 we
have gathered that they valued their experience as well.
