TY Mini CoMpanies

                         Sow And GRow

In September 2013, we started a mini company as a six member
group in our Business Studies class. Our members include Hannah
Lynch Dawson (Manager), Kelly Cartwright (Production), Karl Heaslip
(Finance), Brion Moore, Patricia Gonzalez and Sara Lo Monaco (Sales and Marketing.) Two of our members
were Spanish which made everything a bit more difficult, but then we learned how to work as a group. We
decided to create a primary school teaching mini company called Sow and Grow. We also created a nice
logo using flowers and lots of green and pink, which is our mini company’s colours, we found them great for
                primary school students.
Our mini company is based on helping  children to learn and understand that instead of just eating unhealthy
things and take-aways, they can have fun growing their own vegetables and eating them afterwards. We
teach children that vegetables are good for you and your body. Our pack consists of a cup for each student
in the class, a packet of seeds, compost and two sheets, one explaining the steps of how to grow your own
vegetables, the other showing a food pyramid and the essential, healthy foods you should eat. The kids can
also draw pictures on their cups as they are made of cardboard.

We have taken part in several competitions and we were selected for the top ten mini companies in Cavan
out of ninety two. We also visited different primary schools and sold our goods at craft fairs. We waited
until spring to start selling our Sow and Grow packs because
it is the right time of year to grow vegetables. At winter craft
fairs, we sold flower pots with Christmas decorations. To get
the pots, we put posters up all around the school asking
people to bring them in so that we could reuse them instead
of them being thrown away. We wanted to bring awareness
to childhood obesity and encourage healthy eating to help
                                                      stop it.

Brion Moore and Sara Lo Monaco
