History Week
Earlier in the year, Ms. Trenier and the Transition year pupils
were working hard to organise a fun filled week of history.
Throughout the week, there were many different events
taking place.
The Transition year students were organised into groups
to work on different topics in history and create a project
based on their chosen topic. Each group had to create
their own poster and also make their own slideshow. The
students had to present their project in front of the class, as
well as doing their own three minute presentation in front
of the first and second year students.
The Ty students orgainsed different events in the week.
One of the groups created their own individual A4 posters
based on a famous historical person. These posters were
placed on a board in the hallway of the school. They were
very easy to read and eye catching, some of the points on
these posters were going to be used in the history quiz at
the end of the week.
A group went around the 1st and 2nd year classes, teaching
them about historical facts, using a slideshow which the
students all found very interesting.
Also, a history picture quiz was organised. Each student was
given a piece of paper with pictures of famous historical
people where you had to fill in the correct name of each
person. At the end of the week the winner’s names were all
put into a hat and the winner was then revealed.
During the week, the Michael Collins film was shown to
some of the years in the school that had been studying him.
It was very beneficial to the students as well as enjoyable.
On Friday, the quiz for the 1st and 2nd years took place. The
questions were based on what they had learned earlier in
the week from the presentations, posters and what they
had been taught during class. The students were divided
into teams of five. The winners of the quiz each got a
selection box and a gift voucher.
It was a very enjoyable week, the feedback from the
students was very positive. All in all it was a great success
and we are all looking forward to next year’s History week!
