Neven Maguire Visits

            the Royal School.

In late February 2018 Celebrity Chef Neven
Maguire visited our school to show his support and
encouragement for our TY Mini Company ‘Wooden It’.
This company are making quality hand crafted wooden
products including their very popular breadboards,
which Neven was delighted to endorse. ‘Wooden It‘
are one of 11 RSC Mini Companies who represented
the school in the Cavan Enterprise Awards in the Slieve
            Russell hotel on March 7th.
While Neven was with us he also gave great guidance Irish Angus Beef School Competition Team
and advice to the Irish Angus group in TY who have
been so successful the Certified Irish Angus Beef Schools
competition so far. They are actively promoting the
breed as beneficial for both farmer and consumer
and have reached the national semi-final stage of this
            competition.
Finally, Neven also met with the AIB Build a Bank team
“The Bank of Tomorrow” from TY who have qualified
for the National Final of this competition in March in
the RDS. He was very interested in the work the team
are doing with regard to the homeless and poverty
alleviation in Cavan and Dublin. They have raised money
and volunteered with both Inner City Helping Homeless,
which is a national charity and Sleepout Cavan which is
a local charity. The Bank of Tomorrow with Nevin Maguire
Neven then had a cup of tea in the boarder’s common
room and was given a quick tour of the Home Economics
kitchen as he explained that he has recently become an
            ambassador for the subject.

He was so impressed with the TY pupils he met and their
energy and enthusiasm for the three projects he learned
about that he made a very generous offer of inviting all
those pupils concerned to his cookery school later this
year for a morning session with him in the kitchen!
We really appreciate the time and advice that he gave
our school and he was very complimentary of the TY
pupils involved and wished all three groups well in the
upcoming competitions. Well done to Cassie O’Connor
in particular who organised and co-ordinated the visit. Wooden It
