We feel that our business has been a success and will
continue to be a success in the future and for this reason
we plan to continue trading. The best advice that we were
given during the process was to stay on top of all the
work and not leave things to last minute. We feel like this
benefitted us as we never fell behind on our work and met
all the necessary deadlines.
The advice we would give to students thinking of
participating is to work hard and to enjoy the process. The
process can be a great experience and lots of fun if you let
yourself enjoy it. We would advise students to ask for help
as teachers can be a great help, so don’t be afraid to ask. We
would also advise them to keep working hard and striving
for the best whether the situation is bad or good.
In March we attended the Cavan Enterprise Office Student
Entrepreneur Awards at the Slieve Russell and were
delighted to finish in 1st place overall in the senior category
and now will represent the school & county in the National
Final in Croke Park on the 2nd of May.
It has been a wonderful experience and gave us a brilliant
WOODEN IT? opportunity to see what it takes to run a thriving business.
We are a Transition Year Mini-Company that designs and Many thanks to Mr Robertson and Ms Argue for all their
manufactures quality hand made wooden products. help and support as well as our customers who without
whom none of our success would of been possible.
The team is made up of Daniel Stratford, Barry Stratford,
Kelvin McNally, Jamie Eccleston and Cassie O’Connor.
When we started TY on our first day back Mr
Robertson asked us to try and think of possible
Mini-Company ideas that we would be interested
in. Daniel has a passion for woodwork and some
of our members also are quite interested in it
also so we decided to go down this route with
our company.
We first started off by brainstorming company
names and possible product ideas, we then
conducted some market research in the shape
of a survey then we got started on our social
media networks to help get our company out
there.
We then started production immediately to get
our products ready for the Christmas marke.
The majority of the production work is carried
out by Daniel (our Production Manager) and by
Barry but in the lead up to our first sales it was
all hands on deck.
Our product range includes our very popular
breadboards that Neven Maguire will be using
at the Taste Of Cavan during his demonstration,
our steam-bent and anglepoise desk lamps and
also some very popular decorations especially
for Christmas.
We sold our products at several craft fairs in the
locality as well as on our facebook shop and
through some private sales.
