 CHESS

The Chess club of the Royal School Cavan has had a very successful year again
in 2012/13. It meets every Tuesday at Lunchtime in Mr Robertson’s room where
the members play each other in friendly and competitive matches. There are
over 25 paid up members who meet each week from 5th year down to 1st
year, and this includes players of all levels. The more experienced players often
encourage and coach the novices to improve their game.
In the rst term the club had their annual chess competition which produced
a very high standard of play. In the nal the eventual winner was David Nzewi,
who beat Liam Smith in a close a air.

On the 19th of February there was a chess tournament in The Green Isle Hotel
which Liam Smith, Craig Stratford, Mark Noble and George Marshall went to
with Mr Patterson to represent the
 school.
