                      National Student Enterprise Awards 2015

On the 22nd April 2015 the Royal School Cavan attended the National final of the Student Enterprise awards
in Croke Park. The Royal were representing Cavan as the county winners in all three categories. Indeed they
were the only school in the country to win the junior, intermediate and senior category in their native county.
In the senior category the Step up group consisting of William Ebbitt, Paul Young, Darragh Greenan and
Stuart Bell did very well with their electric tractor step. Also the intermediate team of Aisling Conaty and
Maria Lynch presented their company, Sound.Ed very well.
The major prize winners on the day however were the Woodpeckers group. This group was made up of four
1st years; Rachel Alexander, Daniel Stratford, Sophie Reilly and Barry Stratford. They produced high quality
hand crafted wooden products. There was stiff competition on the day but this group were announced as
the 2nd best mini company in the country at their age level. This was a great achievement and no doubt the
judges were impressed with the quality of the products and the amazing level of sales the company had to
                     report.
When asked about the win, Sophie said ‘The secret of our success lies in finding attractive, niche products
and producing them to the highest standards possible. Some of the products we chose to make were
breadboards, clocks, Christmas decorations and trinket boxes’
She continued ‘The idea was originally suggested by Daniel who loves woodwork and had made breadboards
as gifts for his family which received wonderful feedback’
This latest win continues the great record of success the Royal School has developed in recent years in the
area of student enterprise and hopefully it will inspire others to follow on next year and maybe even go one
                     step better.
