My name is Philip Speares. I am 12 years old. I live in
Stradone, Cavan. I have ve pets. I enjoy playing rugby and
my favourite rugby player is Andrew Trimble. I attend the
Royal School in Cavan. I am in 1st year and I enjoy it a lot.
My favourite subject is technology.

My name is Rachael. I’m 13 years old. I just started secondary
school and I joined the chess club it is really good fun. I
have two dogs one called Honey and the other one is called
Buttercup. I have two brothers and one sister. My brothers are
called Andrew and Graeme my sister is called Emma. Andrew
is the oldest and Emma and Graeme are twins and I am the
youngest in the family.

My name is Sophia Kelvin. I am 12 years old. I just started The
Royal School Cavan and it has been real fun. I have three sisters,
Gift, Precious and Princess. My favourite subjects are Maths, Irish
and Home Economics. My least favourite subjects are English,
Art and Science. I am the second oldest in my family. I live with
my Mum and my three sisters. Gift is the oldest and Princess
is the youngest. I don’t have any pets ‘because my mum and
sisters are scared of most animals especially snakes. I like dogs
and my favourite is Labradors.
I am still looking forward to the rest of the year.

Multi Cultural Cookery - Pauline Beadle
On the 20th of September 2012, a lady named Pauline Beadle come to our school to talk to
the second years. She came to talk to talk us during the week of languages and cultures. She
came to talk to us about her culture, how and where she grew up and her ways of living now.
The second years were split into two groups, the rst group was taken from 9am-11am and the
second group was taken from 11:10am-1:10pm.
When we walked into the room, Pauline had many things laid out on the tables. These things
included strange foods, Chinese clothes and decorations for di erent times of the year.
At the beginning of her talk she mainly spoke about her background – where she came from,
how she grew up and where and who she is with now. Pauline is originally from Malaysia but
moved to England when she was very young. She then met her husband who is English. His
name is Richard Beadle and his occupation is a clergy man in Swanlinbar. After she met Richard
they moved to England and in later years she then moved here to Ireland where they currently
are. They have three children together who are all in primary school. After that, a few questions
were asked and Pauline answered them.
We were then split into two groups and we had a competition against each other. We had
to guess what everything was on the tables and name them correctly. After we had nished
guessing, Pauline called us all back together and named and explained everything. There were
many strange foods that we had never heard of or tasted before. She also told us what the
names were of the clothes which were from China and who wore them. The decorations that
she had were very strange too. There were many di erent decorations for each time of year e.g.
new year decorations and Christmas decorations. It was very interesting.
The last thing Pauline done with us was a cookery demonstration. She made a chicken stir-fry
which is very popular from where she comes from and Pauline and her family also ate it a lot.
She picked a few helpers from each group to help her with a few things e.g. chopping onions.
When the chicken stir-fry was cooked everyone got a taste of it, it was very nice. Overall the
experience was very interesting. We would like to thank Miss Poyntz and Miss McElwaine for
organising to event.
