Acting Principal’s Welcome
I would like to welcome back our staff, students, and their families for the academic year 2020- 2021. It was great to welcome our students back to school in September, we missed them terribly.  I hope that everyone has a good year. I express good wishes to our 46 Form 1 students as they begin their educational adventure in Royal School Cavan.  I also express good wishes to all other students that have joined us into different year groups.

Covid-19 – A Collective Responsibility
We have been preparing our school for the safe return of our students and staff since the end of July. Making the necessary physical changes and re-imagining everything that happens in the school from the moment we open in the morning until lock up time in the evening. I am delighted at how our staff, students and parents have responded to these changes. We are all in this together and the co-operation and assistance of all students and parents/guardians is terrific.

Closing of Boarding House
The Board of Governors, with deep regret, made the very difficult decision last June to close-down the Boarding House at Royal School Cavan.  RSC will now be a day school only.  RSC will continue to maintain what is critically important-the warm RSC welcome and care, the promotion of our core Church of Ireland values, excellence in teaching and learning, our commitment to the individual and the provision of holistic education for all our students

Wi-Fi, ICT & New Classrooms
We are most grateful for the funding received from the DES. This has allowed us to install Wi-Fi throughout the whole school building and purchase 48 Chromebooks. These Chromebooks can be used in any classroom and allow for better integration of ICT in our teaching, learning and assessment. We have also reconfigured the boarding dining hall into a new spacious classroom, reconfigured some of our dormitories into teacher workspaces and a new Learning Support room and finally repurposed our library into a new music room.

Leaving Certificate Results 2020
A huge congratulations to the LC class of 2020 on the outstanding results they received on Monday 7th September. Special mention to Barry Stratford, Rachel Alexander & Nathan Clarke who obtained over 600 points. Remarkably, 40% of the year group achieved over 500 points.  We thank them very much for all the positive contributions they have made during their time at RSC and we wish them every success in the future.

Teaching Staff Changes
We welcome Ms. Henry (Maths) and Ms Bates (English & French) to our teaching staff. We also extend a very warm welcome to our French Language Assistant for this school year, Ms. Mazzoni. We also thank Mr. Lindsay for the massive contribution he has made at RSC over many years and we wish him well in the future.

Sports Hall
We were delighted to receive confirmation of funding to build a Sports Hall on the school grounds last year. Significant work was carried out by the architects at the DES building unit on this project during the early part of the summer. We are hopeful that work will commence soon.

Creative Schools Project
We are delighted to report that RSC was selected to be part of the Creative School Project for this academic year. We hope to give you regular reports on this project throughout the school year.

Cyber Bullying & Internet Safety Seminars
Cyber Bullying & Internet Safety are two of the biggest concerns facing both parents and students in the modern age. All Year Groups took part in a seminar on Internet Safety and Cyber Bullying in mid-September. The topics covered included Cyber bullying, leaving an on-line footprint, internet predators, knowing your on-line friends, dangers of apps, social media privacy, reputation damage.  A parental seminar was also held on Thursday 17th September prior to the Parents’ Association AGM.

Leaving Cert Subjects
We are delighted to introduce LC Business as a new subject to our senior cycle curriculum this year.

Head Boy & Head Girl
We wish Jamie Dugdale and Katie Dunne every success in their role as Head Boy and Head Girl.
