Monthly Roundup – November 2019
Team Hope Christmas shoebox appeal: Well done to the many pupils who have been busy preparing shoeboxes for delivery to Eastern Europe and Africa. In many cases these gifts may be the only one these children receive this Christmas and are therefore much appreciated.
Mini Companies: There are 16 mini companies operating in the school this year. Many of these will attend craft fairs and sales over the Christmas period. The first of these is on Saturday 8th December at the Backyard craft fair in Moynehall, Cavan. Please come along to see what the companies are working on!
Cross Country Success: In October the RSC Senior Boys cross country team won both the North Midlands event, held in Oldcastle and the Cavan Schools event held in Kilinkere. Congratulations to the whole team and particularly Barry Stratford who was placed 3rd and 2nd in the respective events.
Killary Adventure Trip: The TY pupils headed west to the Killary adventure centre in November for the annual teambuilding trip. Here they did hiking, canoeing, abseiling, laser combat and a whole range of outdoor activities for the 4 days they were there. A great time was had by all.
Work Experience: Many TY pupils got their first taste of the working world during the week of work experience at the beginning of November. Thank you to all the places of business which assist in this important initiative twice a year.
Enterprise Award: The School were delighted to be invited to The Entrepreneurial Schools Awards (TESA) in Microsoft HQ in Leopardstown in October where they received a Silver award in recognition of the efforts the school has made in embedding Enterprise into the life of the school.
Futsal Success: In October the school’s 1st year futsal (indoor football) teams participated in the Cavan school’s competition. All post primary schools in Cavan were represented and the boy’s & girl’s teams both won their competitions (pictured). This means both teams qualify for the Ulster Final in Letterkenny.
Irish Quiz: The school attended an Irish Quiz organised by Feachtas in Our Ladys Secondary School Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan in October. There was very stiff competition on the night and The Royal School achieved very high marks but were pipped to the post by Coláiste Oiriall Co. Monaghan.
Football Update: RSC U15 and senior teams travelled to Monaghan Collegiate for our annual challenge game in October. The senior team were defeated on the day but the U15s recorded a 3-1 victory. Earlier our senior team notched a 3-2 victory over our neighbours St. Patricks College.
Rugby: We were delighted to welcome Wilson’s Hospital School to Cavan for early season challenge matches for our Senior Boy’s XV and Junior Boy’s XV. On the day the Wilson’s teams proved too strong, but the keenly contested matches will stand to our teams as we prepare for future challenges. Many thanks to Mr. Kilbride and Niall Patterson (Cavan Rugby Club) for taking Rugby training each week.
